Gender violence in the dating relationships of nursing students

Violence can be disguised as love, which is why it is imperceptible in different environments. Undoubtedly, it is a phenomenon that does not discriminate between age, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or place of residence. At present, violence persists, but it is presented in other forms, thus violating human rights and becoming a public health problem. The present study allowed the identification of gender violence in the dating stage in students of the Nursing Career of the University of Cuenca. A total of 235 nursing students participated in a cross-sectional descriptive quantitative study. Data collection was carried out with the CUVINO instrument with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.932. The results showed students between 17 and 25 years of age (96.2%) of female sex (82.6%), single marital status (96.2%), with a courtship of 12 months or more (34.0%). Thirty percent of students presented some type of gender violence in the following order: psychological (75.31%), physical (24.68%), sexual (16.77%) and instrumental (11.48%). These findings demonstrate the need to improve the approach to sexuality in higher education and to improve training according to the reality of the environment that allows the development of relationship skills and harmonious coexistence, safeguarding an important right such as life.
