Fundación Jiménez Díaz, Clínica de la ConcepciónAbstract
In February 13, 1956 the Instituto de Investigaciones Clínicas y Medicas was opened in Madrid, being the first Spanish modern hospital in which research, teaching and patient care were simultaneously performed. Eight years after, in 1964, the Instituto de Investigaciones Clínicas y Medicas and the Sociedad Protectora de la Clínica del Dr. Jiménez Díaz were brought together with the name of Fundación Jiménez Díaz de Madrid. The building occupied eighteen thousand and fifty two square meters in the Cerro del Pimiento of the old place known as La Florida, located between Cristo Rey Square and Reyes Católicos Avenue. This goal was made possible by the unique effort performed by Carlos Jimenez Diaz, an exceptional, constant person without dismay. Jimenez Diaz had to fight against the resentment and misunderstanding of other members of the University, against the deleterious effects of the Spanish Civil War and against the purge that followed.
