OBESIDAD: UNA EPIDEMIA EN LA SOCIEDAD ACTUAL. ANÁLISIS DE LOS DISTINTOS TIPOS DE TRATAMIENTO: MOTIVACIONAL, FARMACOLÓGICO Y QUIRÚRGICO

Introducción. la obesidad es un trastorno nutricional frecuente, constituye un problema de salud pública
más grave del siglo XXI, por sus consecuencias inmediatas y a largo plazo.
La prevalencia está aumentando de forma alarmante en todo el mundo y en todas las edades, cada vez a
una edad más temprana. Su tratamiento suele ser escalonado con terapia motivacional y asociando tratamiento farmacológico; finalmente se realiza cirugía bariátrica en obesidades severas y con riesgos para su salud.
Objetivos. Realizar una revisión ampliada sobre los distintos tratamientos para reducir peso en pacientes con sobrepeso u obesidad. Evaluar efectividad y resultados.
Material y método. Se trata de una revisión bibliográfica, con una búsqueda en diferentes bases de datos de ciencias de la salud y páginas web: Web of Science, Pubmed, Medline, WHO y Google Académico. Analizando de forma crítica los diferentes estudios realizados en los últimos años sobre la intervención tanto médica como quirúrgica de la obesidad.
Resultados. Se obtienen reducciones de peso con tratamiento motivacional y farmacológico frente a placebo, pero las reducciones más significativas a largo plazo son las producidas con tratamiento quirúrgico frente al tratamiento médico.
Conclusiones. A pesar de los tratamientos existentes la obesidad sigue aumentando en incidencia y prevalencia, constituyendo la gran epidemia del siglo XXI. Todo paciente debe recibir cambios en su estilo de vida como la dieta y aumento de ejercicio físico. Tenemos poco arsenal terapéutico y con muchos efectos adversos. La cirugía bariátrica es un tratamiento eficaz para pacientes obesos o con comorbilidades.
