Abstract

Aim: Evaluate the perception of quality care in the outpatient o the gynecology and obstetrics services in public hospitals of the state of Hidalgo, Mexico.

Methods: The study design was a cross-sectional, analytical and comparative study, applying an anonymous and confidential survey, where the quality care was evaluated, as well as, factors related to structure, process and outcome of services. Patients were selected by a probabilistic sample, using a list of women who sought care at the outpatient gynecology and obstetrics services of 15 public hospitals. The statistical analysis included Pearson's chi-squared statistic, Student's t-Test, odds ratio and non-conditional logistic regression, all of them with confidence intervals of 95%.

Results: A total of 1753 patients were interviewed from March to October, 2011. Significant differences were found between associated factors of the physical characteristics of the consultating room, waiting room and restroom service (P<0.05), .Interpersonal relationships with the physician (P<0.05) and satisfaction of patients' expectations with respect to care (P<0.05). The sociodemographic variables with statistic differences were patient's age and income.

Conclusion. The hospital's infrastructure, the behavior of the physician's while treating the patient and the patient's satisfaction, have an influence on the perception of quality of health care, this denotes the absence of negative results in the quality of outpatient care, on the contrary, the results would be non-positive.
