Introduction. The students, specifically in High School, are at a crucial momento to acquire different habits that will influence their lifestyle and their evolution in adulthood. The sport culture, appreciating the relevance of physical exercise and knowing what the advantages of a healthy life are, are factors that we should foster as teachers. Currently, the scientific literatura demonstrates the relevance of the practice of physical activity and its influence on the improvement of the students’ academic performance.
Objectives. Knowing what kind of intensity and physical exercise improves cognitive processes. Reviewing the reason why academic performance improves.
Method. Several databases were analyzed, among which Pubmed, Scielo, Dialnet and Google Académico stand out, choosing a total of 72 articles in the first selection, using a total of 20.
Results and conclusions. A direct and positive relation between the practice of physical exercise in schoolchildren and the improvement of academic performance. To obtain a positive influence on the academic performance, it is necessary to perform physical activity for an estimated time between 30-90 minutes per day or 2 to 5 hours per week, with a moderate intensity. Finally, it is verified that schoolchildren who perfom physical activity according to the guidlines mentioned above, are better at planning their study hours.
