Introduction. Through ethnobotanical studies, it has been shown that several plants have properties used in the community, oriented towards the management of disease-transmitting vectors.
Objective. To evaluate the larvicidal activity of hydroalcoholic extracts of the bark of Pala scholaris (L.) Roberty on stage IV larvae of Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae).
Method. Aedes aegypti larvae were used in stage III. The bark of the species was collected in Puerto Colombia (Atlántico-Colombia), from which the hydroalcoholic extracts were elaborated by maceration, and quality tests, preliminary phytochemical march and biological activity were carried out following the recommendations given by the World Health Organization.
Results. The hydroalcoholic extracts of Pala scholaris showed the presence of phenols, saponins, terpenes and flavonoids to a large extent, while the larvicidal activity shown was moderate with an LC50 of 475,42 ppm and 403,55 ppm, of the extracts elaborated with ethanol/water relation 1:1 and 7:3, respectively.
Conclusions. It was considered that the bark extract of Pala scholaris could be a promising species for obtaining secondary metabolites with larvicidal activity.
