The Courses of Microsurgery were created in the Laboratory of Microsurgery of the Complejo Asistencial Universitario de Leon twenty five years ago. These courses, which will reach its XIXth edition in 2018 were started in 1993 by Jose Garcia Cosamalon and were promoted by the research unit of the Hospital de Leon.
These theoretic and practical courses, with a capacity of 15 trainees are dedicated to vascular plastic, orthopedic, maxillofacial, veterinary and especially neurosurgical surgeons in training. Peripheral nerve and brachial plexus microsurgical courses are also offered since 2007.
The courses at the Laboratory of Microsurgery of the Hospital de Leon have obtained recognition from the Junta de Castilla y Leon, and are also recommended by the Spanish Society of Neurosurgery and the World Federation of Neurosurgery. These Courses in Microsurgery are consolidated and they will probably survive after their initial promoters retire.
