Objetive. To analyze the information provided in the scientific literature on hypopressive abdominal gymnastics performed in women during the postpartum period.
Methodology. A systematic review was performed fulfilling the criteria of the review protocol Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyzes (PRISMA). In the searches, the electronic databases were used, applying the inclusion criteria, Pubmed, Scopus, Cochrane Plus, LILACS.
Results. We identified 73 articles that met the inclusion criteria. After a series of screenings, 6 articles were included in the systematic review. From them it is observed that Resende et al. and Bernardes et al., publish their article in 2012 in different journals, but observing the same number of subjects, groups and intervention, consequently the same results, so we grouped both articles as if they were one and we treat the results together.
Conclusions. Once the articles were analyzed, it is concluded that hypopressive abdominal gymnastics has been used postpartum in a different way. In the treatment of urinary incontinence in women, significant results have been obtained with respect to other types of training, such as the Pilates method. Regarding the recovery of pre-pregnancy weight, no significant differences were observed. It is noted, due to the small number of articles with a good methodology, the need to develop studies of hypopressive abdominal gymnastics with an adequate sample size, in order to obtain conclusive and extrapolatable results.
