Afecciones neurodegenerativas: toxicidad por acumulación de metales

Resumen


Las enfermedades degenerativas del sistema nervioso se manifiestan por diversos síndromes, el síntoma predominante es la demencia progresiva, estas afecciones neurodegenerativas ocasionan  lteraciones en la conciencia o bien en el sistema nervioso conllevando a un daño severo en las células  neuronales, estas patologías son consideradas graduales, progresivas y de etiología variada, tanto genética  como adquirida. En esta revisión, se abordan y describen los riesgos por toxicidad a través de  metales presentes en el día a día de la población, estos metales pueden encontrarse en alimentos, bebidas,  o bien en ambientes  laborales, son capaces de provocar daños neuronales severos además de  inducir una necrosis o apoptosis en todo el sistema nervioso central y periférico, pudiendo desencadenar  una aparición temprana de Enfermedad de Parkinson, Alzheimer, Huntington, Demencia y Esclerosis  Lateral Amiotrófica, predisponiendo así a poblaciones cada vez más jóvenes.
